Slow Living started with a burnout, after working for 10 years in the fast-paced corporate world in China as an expat. My life from dawn to dusk was office work, meetings, business trips, and the impossible task of staying afloat with hundreds of emails daily, even on weekends and holidays. After 10 years of this exhausting regimen, my body started to fall apart: insomnia, ulcer, back pain, depression, and an almost kidney failure in 2008.

One ridiculous anecdote summarizes it all: the auto-reply I set to my mailbox in 2009, after I broke my right arm: "I apologize for slower emails, I'm typing with a cast on my right arm". Yes! This was my self-beating sense of duty back then!

In 2013 I said goodbye to the corporate world and 6 figure paycheck. I took two sabbatical years to embark on a self-healing, self-discovery journey all around the world: studying yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, aromatherapy, and natural skincare science.

The name Slow Living came to me during my first Vipassana 10 days retreat in 2013: I realized my soul was craving for a slower, more meaningful life.

After this first silent retreat, I decided to drastically simplify my life: I left the glamour of Shanghai, sold most of my personal possessions, and moved to Shenzhen in South China, where I started Slow Living.

My beginnings were more than humble: it all started with a scented soy wax candle I made for a friend's birthday. But as I often say: never underestimate where a small creative idea can lead you!
